Current Status and Outlook | A slow-moving Tropical Disturbance (LPA) dubbed as 93W [LUIS] currently located over Western Taiwan is showing signs of development, and is likely to become a Tropical Depression (TD) within the next 06 to 24 hours. However, this system is not a threat to the Philippine Islands, and is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Friday or Saturday (Aug 24 or 25). This disturbance will induce the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and bring isolated, scattered to occasional rains and thunderstorms across the western sections of Central and Northern including Batanes abd Babuyan Islands through the weekend. |
Where is LPA 92W (LUIS) | As of 5:00 PM PhT today, August 23…0900 GMT. The ill-defined center was located over the landmass of Western Taiwan (near 23.6°N 120.4°E), about 385 km north-northwest of Basco, Batanes or 108 km north of Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. |
