This website is updated every 6 hours (12pm, 6pm, and 6am Philippine Time ~ GMT+8) during times of tropical cyclone activity except 12am Philippine Time (to be included if Tropical Cyclone will pass over the Philippine Islands or close to Bicol Region).

Current Status and OutlookTropical Depression (TD) 03W struggling to organize as it continues to move generally westward closer to the Republic of Palau…expected to enter the southeastern border of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by tomorrow morning (Sunday). It is possible that this system could weaken into a Tropical Disturbance (LPA) after entering PAR and while over the South Philippine Sea by late Sunday or Monday (Mar 18).

This TD is still far to directly affect any part of the country within the next 2 to 3 days.

Where is 03W?As of 5:00 PM PhT today, March 16…0900 GMT. The center was located along the southern sections of Western Micronesia [near 7.6°N 138.2°E], about 412 km east of Koror, Palau or 1,297 km east of Cateel, Davao Oriental
How strong is it?Maximum Sustained Winds (10-min avg): 45 kph near the center…Gustiness: 65 kph
Past Movement (06 hrs)Westward @ 22 km/hr, towards the Western Micronesia-Palau Area.
Forecast Highlights
  • This TD is expected to enter the PAR by tomorrow, Sunday morning (Mar 17).
  • The Day 1 to 2 Forecast (Mar 17-19) shows TD 03W weakening into a Tropical Disturbance (LPA) as it moves across the South Philippine Sea due to increasing unfavorable, upper-level winds. Forecast confidence is at LOW to MEDIUM (<35-65% chance).
  • TD 03W's rainbands or its remnants and its possible enhancement of the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) could bring much-needed rainfall across parts of Mindanao and Visayas, and Eastern Bicol on Monday through Tuesday.  Please be advised that strong thunderstorms may also occur across these areas which could generate flash floods and landslides. Precautionary measures must be implemented during the approach of this tropical cyclone.
  • It will be named locally by PAGASA as "CHEDENG" once it enters the PAR.
  • The next StormWatch Update will be issued after 24 hours.
