Current Status and Outlook

CHABA (IGME) approaching Super Typhoon status as it is about to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR)…expected to track close to the Okinawa and the Ryukyu Islands later tonight.

This is the Final Watch on Chaba (Igme).

Where is Chaba (IGME)?

As of 11:00 AM PhT today, October 03...0300 GMT.  The eye was located over the northernmost part of the North Philippine Sea (near 24.4N 127.3E), about 696 km northeast of Basco, Batanes or 239 km south-southwest of Okinawa, Japan. 

How strong is it?

Maximum Sustained Winds (10-min avg): 215 kph near the center...Gustiness: 260 kph

Where is it heading?

It was moving Northwest @ 24 kph, towards the western part of the Ryukyu Islands.

Forecast Highlights

- Chaba (Igme) is forecast to become a Super Typhoon (STY) later this afternoon or evening.

- Chaba (Igme) remains not a threat to the country.

- Chaba is forecast to exit the PAR this afternoon.

- Chaba (Igme) has just passed approximately 690 to 700 km from Batanes Group of Islands this morning.  Its circulation has remain at sea, far away from the Philippine Landmass.
