Current Status and Outlook

Tropical Depression HAITANG (HUANING) has made landfall over Pingtung County, Southern Taiwan at around 6-7 pm last night (July 30, 2017). It has weakened into a Tropical Depression (TD) as it moved north in the past 6 hours over the western coast of Taiwan. 

It is expected to move north-northwestward within the next 24 hours at a speed of 30 km/hr, making its second landfall over Fujian Province, Southeastern China where it will weaken into a Low Pressure Area (LPA).

*The combination of TD HAITANG and the strong surge of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will bring occasional rains, gusty winds, and thunderstorms with large surfs across the inland and coastal areas of Batanes Islands.

Where is HAITANG (HUANING)?As of 11:00 PM PhT, July 30…1500 GMT.  The center was located over the western coast of Taiwan (near 23.7N 120.2E), about 203 km southwest of Taipei, Taiwan or 405 km north-northwest of Basco, Batanes.
