TROPICAL DISTURBANCE (LPA) 94W [DODONG] STORMWATCH NO. 06 Issued at: 6:30 PM PhT (10:30 GMT) Tuesday 25 June 2019 Next update: 7:00 PM PhT (11:00 GMT), Wednesday 26 June 2019
Current Status and Outlook	Tropical Disturbance (LPA) 94W starts to recurve towards the north while over the North Philippine Sea, in the general direction of Okinawa-Ryukyus Area, likely to develop into a Tropical Depression (TD) within the next 12 to 24 hours. Forecast to exit the northern border of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by tomorrow, Wednesday evening. Meanwhile, PAGASA already upgraded it into a TD, with local name "DODONG." This LPA is not a threat to any part of the country, but is expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and bring occasional rains and thunderstorms across the western sections of Luzon and Visayas within the next 1 to 3 days.
Where is LPA 94W (DODONG)?	As of 5:00 PM PhT today, June 25…0900 GMT. The center was located over the southern part of the North Philippine Sea [near 19.3°N 127.0°E], about 524 km east of Santa Ana, Cagayan or 537 km east-southeast of Basco, Batanes.
How strong is it?	Maximum Sustained Winds (10-min avg): 35 kph near the center…gustiness: 45 kph.
Past Movement (06 hrs)	North-Northeast @ 19 kph, towards the Okinawa-Ryukyu Islands.
Forecast Highlights	This LPA is forecast to reach Tropical Depression (TD) status within the next 12 to 24 hours while over the North Philippine Sea due to improving upper-level winds (decreasing Vertical Wind Shear). The 24-hr. Forecast (June 26) shows LPA 94W exiting the northern border of the PAR by tomorrow, Wednesday evening…passing over or very close to Okinawa, Japan thereafter.  The forecast confidence is now at HIGH (>65% chance). This disturbance will enhance the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and bring occasional rains and thunderstorms across the western sections of the country particularlyWestern Luzon including Metro Manila within the next 24 to 48 hours. The Multi-Model Rain Forecast continues to show these monsoon rains between Wednesday through Sunday  (June 26-30). Please be advised that severe thunderstorms may also occur across these areas which could cause flash floods and landslides. Precautionary measures must be implemented during the approach of these weather systems. The next StormWatch Update will be issued after 24 hours.
