This weather updates section provides "easy-to-understand" tropical cyclone information over the South China Sea and Northwest Pacific Basin (from Malay Peninsula - 100° E up to the International Date Line - 180°). This website is updated every 6 hours (12pm, 6pm, and 6am Philippine Time ~ GMT+8) during times of tropical cyclone activity except 12am Philippine Time (to be included if Tropical Cyclone will pass over the Philippine Islands or close to Bicol Region).

The tropical cyclone information available on this site are taken from different online meteorological agencies from around the world-wide web namely: WeatherPhilippines Foundation Inc., Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical & Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), U.S. Navy's Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) based in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, United Nations' Regional Specialized Meteorological Centre (RSMC) Tokyo-Typhoon Centre (Japan Meteorological Agency), & Hong Kong Observatory.

Current Status and OutlookThe entrance of another area of low pressure spotted over the Philippine Sea, known as Tropical Disturbance 95W is eyeing to become a Tropical Cyclone within the next 12 to 24 hours.  It will be named locally by PAGASA as "EGAY," once they upgraded the system.

This LPA is still far to directly affect any part of the country. However, it will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and bring "on-&-off" rains and thunderstorms across Luzon and Visayas particularly the western sections through the weekend.

Where is LPA 95W?As of 5:00 PM PhT today, June 28…0900 GMT. The center was located over the eastern part of the Central Philippine Sea [near 13.2°N 133.9°E], about 1,051 km east of Virac, Catanduanes or 1,106 km east of Legazpi City, Albay. 
How strong is it?Maximum Sustained Winds (10-min avg): 35 kph near the center, with gustiness: 50 kph.
Past Movement (06 hrs)Quasi-Stationary over the Eastern Part of the Central Philippine Sea.
Forecast Highlights
  • The Day 2 to 3 Forecast (Jun 30-Jul 01) shows LPA 95W becoming a Tropical Depression (TD) over the Central and North Philippine Sea, but with high uncertainty. Forecast confidence at this time is LOW (<35% chance).
  • The presence of this potential Tropical Cyclone will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and could bring occasional rains, some gusty winds and thunderstorms across Luzon and Visayas particularly the Western Sections including Metro Manila today through the weekend. Please be advised that severe thunderstormsmay also occur across these areas which could cause flash floods and landslides.Precautionary measures must be implemented during the approach of these weather systems.
  • It will be named locally by PAGASA as "EGAY" once they upgraded it into a Tropical Cyclone.
  • The next StormWatch Update will be issued after 24 hours.
